The University has published its gender pay gap report for 2025, which it is required to do each year by law. At the snapshot date of 31 March 2025, the mean hourly pay of women employed by the University was 12.6% lower than that of men, and the median 9.8% lower, compared with 13.9% and 11.2% in 2024.
The gap reflects the make-up of the workforce rather than unequal pay for the same work: women hold 61% of posts in the lowest pay quarter and 41% in the highest. The proportion of professors who are women rose from 31% to 34%.
The report sets out the actions agreed by the University’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee, including a review of how market supplements are awarded, which account for a large share of the bonus pay gap of 38.2%.
