Undergraduate study

We admit about 2,200 undergraduates a year. Every application is read in full by an admissions tutor in the subject.

Applications for 2027 entry have closed

The deadline for all undergraduate courses was 15 October 2026. Interviews take place in the first half of December, and every applicant hears from us by the end of January. Applications for 2028 entry open in May 2027.

How to apply

  1. Choose a course. Our A to Z of courses lists every degree for 2027 entry, with its code and typical offer.
  2. Apply by the October deadline. Applications are made through the national admissions service. The University’s deadline is in mid-October for every course, earlier than most universities, because we interview.
  3. Interview. Most subjects shortlist and interview in the first two weeks of December, online or in Oxenfurt. An interview is a conversation about your subject with two tutors; there is nothing to prepare except your own reading.
  4. Decision. Every applicant hears from us by the end of January.

Contextual admissions and the Pontar Access Scheme

Grades are not the whole story. We make offers one or two grades below our typical offer to applicants who have spent time in care, who are carers, who live in an area with low rates of progression to higher education, or who have taken part in the Pontar Access Scheme, our two-year programme for students in state schools across the region.

In 2025, 31% of the undergraduates we admitted from UK schools came in on a contextual offer.

Deferred entry and transfers

Most courses accept applications for deferred entry. We do not accept transfers into the second year, except between joint and single honours in the same faculty.
