International students and visas

About 2,410 students from 104 countries study at Oxenfurt. The International Student Advice team can help with visas, finance and settling in.

Student visas

Most students from outside the UK need a student visa to study here. The University will send you a confirmation of your place, with its reference number, once you have met the conditions of your offer and paid the deposit; you need this to apply. Apply as soon as you have it, and allow at least three weeks for a decision.

Keeping to the conditions of your visa

  • Enrol at the start of each year, and attend your teaching. The University is required to report students who stop attending or withdraw.
  • Tell the Student Hub if you change your address, your course or your passport.
  • During term you may work up to the number of hours a week your visa allows, usually 20 for degree-level students; in the vacations you may work full time.
  • Ask the International Student Advice team before you suspend your studies, change course or take time out, as these can affect your visa.

Extending your visa and after your course

If your course is extended, or you go on to another course, you may be able to extend your visa from within the UK. Graduates may be eligible to stay and work in the UK for a period after their course. The team runs information sessions on both each term.

Settling in

An international welcome week runs before the autumn term, with a collection from Oxenfurt Central station, opening a bank account and registering with a doctor. The Students’ Union has more than forty national and cultural societies.
