Personal safety

Oxenfurt is a safe city to study in, and Security Services is there around the clock if something goes wrong.

The Security Control Room

The Control Room at the Bellhouse Lane lodge is staffed 24 hours a day on 01632 960733. Save the number in your phone. In an emergency, call the emergency services first and then the Control Room, so that we can meet them and show them the way.

Getting home

  • The Night Wardens patrol the city-centre buildings from 21:00 to 07:00 and will walk with you between University buildings or to the ferry if you ask at the lodge.
  • The last ferry from Ferry Lane to Novigrad leaves at 23:20. If you miss it, or high water cancels it, the Control Room can arrange a taxi over the Pontar Bridge, paid for by the Ferry Bursary, for students who live in Novigrad.
  • The Riverside site is lit along the Embankment path, which has help points connected to the Control Room.

Buildings at night

Most University buildings close at 22:00. The Treasury beneath the Old Schools and the closed stacks of the Old Library are patrolled at night by the University’s licensed security system; see campus security. Please leave the Old Library when the bell rings at 21:30.

Reporting an incident

You can report harassment, assault, hate incidents or anything else that has made you feel unsafe, by name or anonymously, through the Report and Support form (on the student intranet; sign-in required), or in person to the Student Wellbeing Service. A trained adviser will contact you if you give your name.
