Wellbeing and disability support
The Student Wellbeing Service offers counselling, mental health advice and disability support to every student, free and in confidence.
In an emergency
If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call the emergency services. Then tell the Security Control Room on 01632 960733, which is staffed 24 hours a day and can reach the on-call welfare officer.
Counselling
Short-term counselling, usually up to six sessions, in person at the Student Wellbeing Service on Rendle Street or online. Most students who ask are offered a first appointment within ten working days. Group workshops on sleep, anxiety and exam stress run each term.
Mental health advice
Mental health advisers can help you manage a longer-term condition alongside your studies, agree support with your department, and work with your doctor.
Disability Advisory Service
If you have a disability, a long-term health condition or a specific learning difficulty such as dyslexia, the Disability Advisory Service can agree a support plan with you. A plan may include examination arrangements, extended library loans, lecture recordings or note-taking support, and is shared with your department only with your consent. The Service can also help you apply for government disability funding if you are eligible.
Registering with a doctor
Every student should register with a general practice near where they live. There are practices on both banks of the river within walking distance of the University.
